“Joyful, intrigued, comfortable, awesomesauce(!),” these were just some of the words alumni used to describe the energy at last week’s Alumni Network kick-off workshop, which brought together 30 young people from 11 schools across London.
The workshop was designed to help alumni connect, set shared values, and shape the future of the network. Through activities like ‘human bingo’ icebreakers, a group agreement, and lively discussions, the group collectively chose the values that will guide their journey, including: courage, gratitude, teamwork, trust, and kindness.
But the day was about more than just connection, it was a step towards realising the Alumni Network’s vision: to build a national network of young people empowered to become leaders and decision-makers, shaping AllChild’s early-intervention, community-led support model, and advocating for change on issues that matter to them.
This term, alumni will begin Ambassador training sessions where they’ll develop key communication and public speaking skills, learning how to confidently share their stories and present in front of an audience.
A special highlight of the kick-off was working with our partner Media Cubs to create an entirely youth-led video about alumni. Two of our alumni trained as Young Reporters, honing their interviewing and presenting skills and then leading the filming on the day. The finished video will be shared soon, capturing the vibrant spirit of the network in action.
The success of this first session is a strong start to the year. With monthly workshops ahead and more alumni set to join, the network is growing across London and at a national level.
As it does, we know these young people will continue to inspire each other, bring fresh ideas, and drive positive change - proving that when young people come together, their impact only multiplies.
