TPC GOALS Education is a football mentoring programme to support students who face challenges either with their behaviour or social skills. The beautiful game of football teaches young people about the importance of goal setting, positive decision making, communication, team work, leadership and managing emotions. The sessions are split between to classroom and on the pitch.
TPC has been working in collaboration with AllChild since 2022. Together, we have delivered behaviour, social skills, leadership, group sessions as well personalised 1-1 mentoring for students who urgently require support. The lead mentor and Link Workers at AllChild work cohesively to encourage students to achieve their goals with regular check ins and feedback. Since the start of delivering in more than 5 schools with AllChild, there has been feedback and data highlights showing an increased level of positive engagement from students in school, increased attendance, more confidence and a display of understanding and empathy towards peers and teachers.
The football based behaviour programme allows students to blend their love of the game and learn about self and others around them.Student A was disengaged at school with low attendance and struggled to make positive choices in class. With the support of a mentor on this programme he was able to set himself some goals which included role modelling his favourite footballer and exploring their journey and rise, as well as mental health workshops, leadership and managing emotion sessions. The difference after 8 weeks showed a much changed student who was more aware of himself, accountable for his actions and had started to build better connections with his peers and teachers. Student A is on his way to becoming a better version of his self thanks to the support of TPC GOALS Education.
Student B was identified as a high achieving academic student but struggled in social settings, was very shy and did not interact much with other students. She had not played football much before but the school chose the football based social skills programme for a small group of girls who also needed social skills support. This environment and programme allowed Student B to practice her communication skills such as eye contact, gestures, reading body language, conversation starters as well partaking in wellbeing and mental health workshops. The mentor and teachers noticed a happier student who was able to make new peer connections in her school day and someone who had a new hobby in playing football!
