Magic Moments & Big Ideas: AllChild x Goldman Sachs Volunteer Day

May 8, 2025

What do you get when you mix 18 curious young minds, 9 enthusiastic volunteers, a dozen  eggs, and a splash of entrepreneurial spirit?

One unforgettable day of growth, creativity, and connection.

We are excited to share the highlights from our recent Professional Insights Day, hosted in collaboration with our corporate partner, Goldman Sachs. These days provide the right environment and opportunities for young people to step out of their comfort zones, helping them to develop teamwork, leadership and communications skills as well as think deeply about their future aspirations.

The morning was filled with icebreakers and team challenges; Human Bingo, speed interviews and CV advice and the high-stakes Egg Drop Challenge, where teams had to come up with a creative way of stopping their egg cracking when dropped using only a few materials.

Our Trustee, John Storey, from Goldman Sachs provided an insightful overview of various career pathways within the organisation, emphasising their core values. Volunteers then shared their own personal journey’s within Goldman Sachs.  Ben, a Chelsea Academy alumnus, and James, who took the apprenticeship route after A Levels, shared their unconventional paths to success. These weren’t just inspiring - they were relatable. For many of our young attendees, it was the first time they could see themselves in stories like these.

“I didn’t know you could skip university and still work somewhere like this!” one young person told us.

After lunch, it was time to put on their entrepreneurial hats. Teams pitched business ideas to AllChild CEO, Louisa Mitchell MBE, in our very own Dragon’s Den.

‘ImsomniAid’, a business pitch of earbuds designed to aid sleep, took the top spot with an amazing £40k in “funding,” but every team walked away a winner - with creativity, confidence, and a deeper belief in their potential.

When designing our corporate engagement strategy, the most important word for us is “meaningful” - we want our opportunities to be meaningful for the young people, who use them to support their goals and progress.

Valuing volunteering

However, we also aim to make the opportunities meaningful for volunteers too. Using volunteer days to connect with powerful missions like AllChild’s is a purposeful and enriching way to spend your time and share your skills.

Our values at AllChild are built on collaboration, purpose, and opportunity - and our Professional Insights Days are the living proof. Volunteers left inspired too:

“Watching the kids grow in confidence throughout the day was the highlight. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

We’re just getting started. With big plans for our corporate engagement strategy, we’re ready to create even more powerful experiences where everyone grows - students, volunteers, and our wider community.
